  Finding Indie Arcs and  Avoiding AI   I posted on Bluesky about my disappointment in finding out that both Book sirens and BookSprout allow ARCs to be submitted that have used GenAi, both for the book cover and the writing itself (bleh).    But despair not! A lot of very knowledgable people came forward to offer me alternatives and to explain how NetGalley can be made accessible for indie authors.  I wanted to share that valuable information in a concise and easy to reference way, hence this blog post.      Co-op for NetGalley This is more for authors rather than reviewers, however, I wasn't aware of its existence and it seems like too valuable of a resource to not include!     This is a way to make NetGalley more accessible for indie authors by offering reduced fees through Victory editing.  Victory editing will then advertise the author's book on NetGalley.     More info: https://victoryediting.com/services/n...

Closed Door Romance

 Closed Door Queer Romance  Recommendations    What is closed door ro mance?   I wanted to give a bit of context to closed door romance, if you already know/just want to see the dang books, you can skip this😁) Closed door romance, or fade to black as it's sometimes called, refers to a type of book with no explicit scenes between characters. Usually, not always, there will be a kiss on screen and then that's where it 'fades to black' or stops.     Why is this distinction needed? Good question! To be explicitly (heh) clear, I am NOT suggesting there's anything wrong with books that have explicit scenes. I'm not intending to make some weird puritanical argument where closed door is gold star standard.  There are a multitude of reasons why someone might refer closed door. They could be reading in public and would prefer closed door, they could be on the ace spectrum and sex-averse/repulsed, or maybe that's just what they want to read in the mome...

I feel like it being described as Knives Out meets Ghostbusters doesn't even scratch the surface of how good this is. I was so impressed with the murder mystery; it had so many twists and turns, interesting characters, and it was detailed enough to give Agatha Christie a run for her money! I also loved that it was set in the UK; Gwyn was such an incredible character and I feel like with books set in the UK, Wales rarely gets any representation. So it was lovely to see.
